Step 1: Capturing landfill gas
As organic waste decomposes in a landfill, it produces landfill gas, primarily made up of methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂). This gas is captured and moved to a processing facility, preventing methane from entering the atmosphere.
Step 2: Converting landfill gas to RNG
CO₂ and other impurities are removed, leaving behind pipeline-quality methane or RNG, turning what would otherwise be a harmful greenhouse gas into a clean, renewable energy source.
Step 3: Delivering clean energy
Once the RNG is processed, it is either compressed or liquefied and delivered via pipelines or tankers for use. It can be used for local transportation, heating, electricity generation, industrial processes and decarbonization of the global LNG supply chain..
